Calendar Journal Activities

Our first unit in math every year is calendar.  It is a fast unit and we only spend about 1 week on it, but we continue to go over it throughout the year.  We do calendar time every day in my class.  It is the one thing that is always the same and I actually let my students run it since it is so routine.
We have math journals, but in years past I haven't done much with them.  I would have my students take them out and use them, just because they had them in their chair pockets.  This year, I wanted to make them more meaningful.  I started creating journal activities to go in our journals for each math unit.  Here is my calendar unit activities that I use during the first week of school.
It includes a blank calendar that I have my students fill out each month. (They LOVE doing this and get so excited to take them home and hang them up-we add school holidays(100th day of school and no school for President's Day), a cut and glue days of the week and moths of the year, poems/songs to go along with calendar time, and a calendar time page for students to complete while in calendar time or after calendar time.
